All the wisdom in the world means absolutely nothing if you are not ready for it! Oh, I mean, you can certainly hear what is being said, but you have to be ready to actually listen to and internalize the message. Do you not agree? How many times have you heard an idea and said to yourself: yeah, that’s right, this is such a great thing I’d like to do from now on! And then you promptly moved on as if that thought never occurred, thoroughly forgotten until the next time you come across it. And the cycle repeats itself. Until the day when you have grown into the person who is ready for it, who hears a thought maybe for the 100th time, but it somehow feels fresh, and something inside clicks, and the revelation hits like a thunderbolt!
To me, this act of deep understanding is almost a physical sensation, a palpable manifestation of thought that cannot be ignored and demands action. It is in my face, impossible to ignore. By now, this happened so many times that I know when I truly get it, when I am ready to throw myself fully into action fully with body, mind, and emotion working in unison. It is not a choice any longer; rather it has become inevitable.
Yep, as they say, “the road to hell is paved with good intentions” - a good intention means nothing unless followed through! This is the reason why I never cared for stuff such as New Year’s resolutions. I am sure the data varies from country to country, over age groups, and genders. For example, in Romania I was not even aware of this concept. Based on a study performed in December 2015 by the University of Scranton and published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology, only about 8 percent of the people (and I assume the test population was composed of Americans) are successful in achieving their resolution and 6 months into it, only about half of them are still sticking to it. I mean, with the main driver being the calendar showing the day as January 1, such dismal rate of success is not surprising. I am only surprised that people are still so foolishly optimistic to believe that only because a new year has started, they can make a change.
But here is the thing: I think that we all know in the depths of our hearts from the very beginning when we set our minds to implement a change if we are going to be successful or not. We know! But somehow trust that through some magical circumstance we will overcome the obstacles. So, is there a way through which we can stack the cards toward our advantage? I think there is and it will be the subject of a future post!
Onward,
Cristina
